“To every man there comes … that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a special thing unique to him and fitted to his talent. What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour.”
One of the concepts I’ve been emphasizing for myself and SRT employees this year is “opportunity”. This quote expresses it beautifully and succinctly. Like many quotes its origin is not completely certain however most sources assign it to Churchill.
Big opportunities in life are rare. Each person may get one or two if they are really lucky. When you find yourself with one in hand its time to pull out the stops and do everything possible to bring it fully to fruition. Since we don’t know when these opportunities will come we need to be vigilant for them…ready at all times. There will be 1,000 reasons to continue business as usual, reject the opportunity or give it a stale effort. Being ready for most really means being ready to reject those 1,000 reasons and grab onto the one that says it can work.
